#005 NOTE FOR WHEELER’S TUNDRA 1.5” ADD A LEAF KIT

-READ BEFORE BEGINNING INSTALLATION-

PLEASE NOTE THIS TUNDRA LEAF KIT IS DESIGNED TO FIT UNDER YOUR EXISTING 3RD LEAF. IT IS DESIGNED TO FIT BETWEEN THE INSIDE EDGES OF YOUR EXISTING LEAF SPRING ALIGNMENT CLAMPS.  ON RARE OCCASION WE SEE ODD FACTORY LEAF SPRINGS THAT HAVE THE ALIGNMENT CLAMPS MOUNTED CLOSER TO THE CENTER OF THE SPRING (THIS IS MOSTLY ASSOCIATED WITH SOME 2WD TRUCKS AND/OR A TRD ON-ROAD PERFORMANCE PACKAGE THAT INCLUDES A REAR SWAY BAR). THIS CAUSES AN INTERFERENCE ON THE FIT OF THE ADD A LEAF KIT. MEASURE THE DISTANCE FROM THE CENTER OF THE BUMPSTOP TO THE INSIDE EDGE OF THE FRONT ALIGNMENT CLAMP- IT CAN BE NO LESS THAN 15.75”. MEASURE THE DISTANCE FROM THE CENTER OF THE BUMPSTOP TO THE INSIDE EDGE OF THE REAR ALIGNMENT CLAMP- IT CAN BE NO LESS THAN 17.75”. IF YOU HAVE A SHORTER MEASUREMENT THAN ALLOWED YOU WILL NEED TO CONTACT US AND WE’LL HAVE TO FIGURE OUT ANOTHER WAY TO LIFT THE BACK OF YOUR TRUCK.

Installation Instructions

Wheeler’s Off-Road Tundra 1.5” AAL Kit

1.      Lift the rear of the vehicle and place jack stands on the frame so the rear tires almost touch the ground.

2.      Remove the rear tires.

3.      Disconnect the rear shocks at the axle.

4.      It’s best to install the add a leafs on one side at a time. Support the rear axle with a floor jack and loosen all four u-bolts. Remove the u-bolts and u-bolt clamp plate from one side.

5.      Slowly lower the axle till the axle housing is clear of the leaf spring.

6.      With the appropriate C clamps, clamp the spring together and remove the center pin; you may have to use vise grips to hold the smooth head of the centering pin.

7.      Carefully remove the C clamps when the center pin has been removed.

8.      Place the anti-friction pads on the top side of the leaf in the holes on either end of the leaf. Note that the leaf is shorter in length on one side of the center pin hole compared to the other side, the short side of the leaf goes forward. Place the add a leaf in the spring pack, positioning it under the 3rd leaf from the top and above the factory overload leaf.

9.      Using C clamps, reclamp the leafs and align the bolt hole in the center to insert the center pin and tighten securely. Then cut off the extra length on the pin so that 1/8” is protruding beyond the nut so the factory bump stop can be reinstalled.

10. Raise the rear axle onto the spring assy, make sure the center pin seats                                            into the axle perch properly.

11. Re-install the u-bolts and clamp plates, torque the u-bolt nuts lightly at this time.

12. Repeat steps 4-11 on the other side, then torque all the u-bolts evenly to factory specs. Try to get the same amount of u-bolt protruding through each nut.

13. Reconnect the rear shocks. Remember to retorque the u-bolts after 300mi.
